CALL TO ACTION

E15 MANDATE CALL TO ACTION

A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa members, friends and family,

We continue to stand opposed to the Ethanol Mandate bill that would mandate the sale of E15 in the state of Iowa.  The bills this session have addressed most of the concerns we had last year with an ethanol mandate.  However, while the intent of the bill is something we support, the unintended consequence of the way it is written would be forcing many small independent retailers either out of business or unable to offer non-ethanol fuel at all.     The House overwhelmingly passed this bill last week. It has already passed out of Senate subcommittee and is expected to pass out of the Senate Agriculture Committee tomorrow.  If that happens it could be voted on and passed yet this week by the full Senate. This needs immediate attention so that we can get our voice heard and get this bill stopped or amended.    A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa is urging every person to please reach out and email your State Senator (see contact list and map below) to make it known that we stand against this bill for the following reasons: • This bill is a mandate for the sale of higher blend bio-fuels in our state.  • Although we support farmers and renewable fuels industries, this mandate would eliminate fuel choices, creating higher prices and eliminate choices for the end consumers - us.  • Consumers buying a non-ethanol product want it for a specific reason – motorcycles, classic cars, older tractors, lawn mowers, generators, & chain saws.  Consumers need access to fuel that allows them to be able to use these products. Why should we be forced to pay more for clear gasoline or not have access to it at all?  • Rural and lower volume gas stations and convenience stores simply can't afford the equipment to comply, potentially forcing them to close. This would affect many rural communities in which we live and ride. Current programs are working - including providing resources (grants) for retailers to update their infrastructure.  Many locations that can afford it are updating their equipment to be able to carry E15. Currently 87% of the gasoline sold today is already an ethanol blend.      To read the full bill you can go to Iowa Legislature - BillBook.  If you need additional information, please feel free to contact me at d10events@hotmail.com or my cell 515-890-2991.

Thank you in advance for being the “boots on the ground” that makes protecting the motorcycling life A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa strong.

 Respectfully,

Jodi Right A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa State Legislative Officer
